Vents for Sodium Hydroxide Tanks
|
... |
|
|
Tank vents for a
Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) tank should allow the tank to
remain at atmospheric pressure internally. Allowing a
vaccuum or a pressurized situation to occur can cause
deformation or damage to the tank. |
|
For Sodium
Hydroxide tanks that are filled or discharged through the use of
pumps, the tank vent should be at
least one inch larger than the largest intake or discharge pipe
size. For tanks that are filled from a tanker truck
through the use of pneumatic pressure, the vent should be sized
larger to account for the extra air pushed in with the chemical.
Dow Chemical recommends that vents on Caustic Soda tanks be
extended to within 3 feet of the ground. |
